Heather Ellsworth, MT-BC

I have been a musician almost all my life. From age 7 onwards, I’ve taken lessons on a variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, drums, violin, and voice. As a child, one of my favorite activities was going through my mom’s record collection and learning the words to songs by Abba, John Denver, and Diana Ross.

In high school and college, I volunteered in organizations geared towards helping people, and I continued to seek opportunities to help people in the non-profit world after graduation. For four years, I worked as a massage therapist, using touch and advanced anatomical knowledge to heal people.

These two important aspects of my life converged when I decided to go back to school for music therapy. My studies provided me with an understanding of the many links between music and health, and I learned many different techniques to address a wide variety of physical and emotional issues. Combining my love of playing and creating music with helping people to heal was a natural career move. Now I provide music therapy to people in Midcoast Maine, both individually and in groups. I look forward to many years of serving this area!

I received my B.A. in Music Composition from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and I received my Music Therapy Equivalency Degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana. As a music therapist, I give my full attention to my clients. I do my best to bring a great deal of energy, laughter, and healing to each session. My years of comedy improvisation come into play in ensuring that my clients enjoy their experience while working towards tangible goals.
